Why you should file your taxes online: Part 2
Heres something to think about: It’s smart to prepare a tax return by hand which includes all your records and relevant information. This way, once you begin your online process you can easily take information from your prepared return then input it into whichever tax preparation software you choose. If you have anything other than a simple tax return, you should consider this.
Correctness. Tax filing software programs will help you throughout your online tax preparation process. For instance, let say you decide to file an IRS Form 1040EZ but you itemized deductions. The tax preparation software will pick this up and alert you that you are filing the incorrect form. This is another safety measure for you. If you would have submitted your tax return to the IRS with this error on it, you would have received an IRS Notice stating the inconsistency, but it would have taken weeks to get this notice..
Completeness. The online taxes software will let you know when your tax return is missing any information. For instance, if you do not enter your social security number(s), exemption figure, applicable deductions, or withholding allowances you will receive an 'incomplete information' alert. As an example, missing information can also be you claiming a tax credit without any corresponding qualifications. This will once again require you to correct it before you are allowed to move proceed.
Faster refund. With E-filing, you will receive your income tax refund faster. Actually, refunds are known for happening in about half the time as that of a paper mailed tax return. You can get your tax refund even sooner if you use the direct deposit method of receiving it.
Receipt Acknowledgement. Upon completion and submitting of your income tax return, your online tax service will email you a 'receipt acknowledgement confirmation'. This means that your income tax return was submitted properly. Keep this for your records.
Non-Technical appeal.
It Saves Money & Time. You will not have to take the time to make a trip to the post office, nor buy postage, if you file online.
Convenience. All you need to prepare your tax return the efile way is a computer with Internet access. You can easily sit at home, at the library, or have someone else with online access do it. More and more tax returns are done on home computers. That number is expected to increase for the convenience factor alone.
Human error. When you file a paper return, the IRS can un-staple it, or take it apart. When they put it back together, they could mistakenly loose one of your tax documents. You do not have to worry yourself with this when you e-file your income tax return.
Papers. By efiling, you do not need to worryyourself over putting all the applicable items in order. If you were preparing a paper return, you would need to put your items in the order that they appear on your 1040. Reviewing and organizing your paper tax return is recommended, anyways. Tax preparers do it as a means to please the IRS. When you e-file your tax return, It doesn’t matter what order your attachments are in.
